PAIA manual

Prepared under section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA), as amended by the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Effective date: 19 October 2026 · Last updated: 19 October 2026

1. Purpose of this manual

PAIA gives everyone the right to request access to records held by a private body when the record is needed to exercise or protect a right, subject to the grounds of refusal in PAIA. This manual tells you what records Luciatech (Pty) Ltd, trading as Prysly ("Prysly"), holds and how to ask for them. It also describes how Prysly processes personal information, as section 51(1)(c) requires.

Prysly runs a free browser extension that shows the price history of products on 35 South African store websites and cheaper prices at the other stores, and the website prysly.com. Prysly has no user accounts and does not collect names or contact details of the shoppers who use it.

7.5 Security measures

8. How to request access

  1. Complete Form 2 (Request for access to record, regulation 7 of the PAIA Regulations), available from the Information Regulator's website or from us on request.
  2. Send it to the Information Officer by email to privacy@prysly.co.za or by post or hand to Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.
  3. Describe the record you want in enough detail for us to find it, say how you want access (for example a copy by email), and state the right you want to exercise or protect and why the record is needed for it (section 53).
  4. If you ask on behalf of someone else, include proof of your authority. We may ask for proof of identity.
  5. If you cannot read or write, or have a disability, you may make the request orally and we will help you complete the form.

We will decide on your request within 30 days of receiving it, and may extend that once by up to 30 more days in the circumstances section 57 allows, telling you why. If we do not answer in time, the request is regarded as refused (section 58).

To ask for your own personal information under POPIA (rather than a record under PAIA), you can simply email us; see "Your rights" in the privacy policy.

9. Fees

Fees are those prescribed under the PAIA Regulations, as published by the Information Regulator in its PAIA fees structure (private body fees), as amended from time to time. In summary:

10. Refusal and remedies

We may refuse access only on the grounds in Part 3, Chapter 4 of PAIA, for example to protect the privacy of a third party, commercial information of a third party or of Prysly, confidential information, the safety of people or property, or records privileged from production in legal proceedings. If we refuse, we will give reasons. There is no internal appeal against a private body's decision. If you are unhappy with a decision, you may complain to the Information Regulator within 180 days of our decision, or of the 30-day deadline passing without one (sections 77A and 77B, using PAIA Form 5). You must use this complaint procedure before applying to court (section 78).

11. Availability of this manual

This manual is available on our website at prysly.com/legal/paia-manual.html, for inspection at our address during business hours, free of charge, and to the Information Regulator on request. A copy can be emailed to you on request; the prescribed fee for a copy may apply. We review it at least once a year and whenever our processing changes.
